Primesouth, LLC, Resumes Full Plant Operations at the Dell Power Plant Following Successful Dual Fuel Conversion

Columbia, S.C., June 2011Primesouth, LLC announces that the Dell Power Plant successfully completed startup, commissioning and emissions testing of the plant combustion turbines with new liquid fuel capability in June 2011.

Dell Power Plant is a 2x1 combined cycle facility owned by Associated Electric Cooperative, Inc. The major equipment consists of two GE 7FA Combustion Turbines and a GE D-11 Steam turbine. Nominal generating capacity is 580 MW. Primesouth has provided Operations and Maintenance services for Dell Plant since 2006.

During the summer high demand period of 2010, the Dell Plant set new generation records in both July and August. In September 2010 Unit 1 combustion turbine was shut down to make the necessary modifications to burn liquid fuel while Unit 2 remained available for gas fuel dispatch. In late October Unit 2 was shut down for liquid fuel modifications.

Additional facility construction began in April 2010 and required the services of multiple contractors, such as Black and Veatch, GE, and others to complete the work. Two 1.5 million gallon diesel fuel storage tanks as well as a truck unloading facility were installed to handle unloading and storage of the new fuel. A 1.5 million gallon water storage tank was built to store the NOX injection water used when firing the combustion turbines with liquid fuel. A 600 gallon per minute RO water treatment plant was installed to handle the larger water requirements.

All aspects of the construction, commissioning and start up were supported by Dell Plant Primesouth employees who worked tirelessly for the successful completion of this project.
